Trump on Science: Poll & His Words

Trump ScienceHow would Donald Trump, if elected president, impact American science?

Would Trump on Science be a good thing, bad thing or somewhere in between? Would he “reject” the NIH budget? Might he even personally reject some grants, “Your R01 is fired” just for fun?

And, yes, I know I’m biased.

Take our poll.

Can we learn anything from what Trump has said about science in the past?

Reason gave a score of Trump on Science and not surprisingly they weren’t impressed. They based it in part based on some of Trump’s prolific tweeting that had touched on science. SImilarly, Mother Jones slammed Trump for his views on science including climate change, vaccines, autism, and Ebola.

I looked for conservative ranking of Trump on science, but found none. Does that alone say something?

I suspect that inside of Trump there is a side that could be very pro-biotech and that much of his words and tweets during the campaign have been spurred by what he thinks the GOP wants to hear. What would come through if he were President?

  1. Nothing could be worse for science than president Ted Cruz. .. and he is just slipping under the radar.

  2. Oh how I wish that the US elections and what happens in the US did not concern or affect me at all! Unfortunately here in Europe we are gonna feel the impact. #FeelTheBern

  3. Arko7 you may be right but he also might do the exact opposite which will be an advantage for the true American people. Have a look at what has happened to all the countries that have illegal immigrants and those that just don’t want to work. All these non productive people expect is to be totally look after by you and all the other tax payers who work hard and save for their future. These people sit back and do nothing other than complain about how bad things are for them and keep putting hand out. America has too much litigation, high cost of health and not enough productivity for such a modern upstanding country. America does need to change.

Dear Mr. Knoepfer: Is this the Science you had in mind-that invented the tool below? (Or were you thinking of the Science in the Universities that is funded by the pharmatheutical industry in cahoots with the FDA and the AMA? or some other “Science”?)Antique Tool Still In Use??
    Tobacco Smoke Enema Kit (1750s – 1810s).

The tobacco enema was used to infuse tobacco smoke into a patient’s rectum for various medical purposes, but primarily the resuscitation of drowning victims.
A rectal tube inserted into the anus was connected to a fumigator and bellows that forced the smoke into the rectum. The warmth of the smoke was thought to promote respiration.
Doubts about the credibility of tobacco enemas led to the popular phrase “blowing smoke up your ^&%$.”

As you are most likely aware, this odd tool is still heavily used by all levels of government.
And it seems Trump as well as the other presidential candidates are blowing
the same old smoke-of course some people feel the same about so called
scientists who don’t follow the scientific method and prove drugs are good
for you by the way they plan their studies. Oh and now they are charging the
guinea pigs- http://www.nih.gov/health-information/nih-clinical-research-trials-you/finding-trials-clinicaltrials.gov http://www.nih.gov/health-information/nih-clinical-research-trials-you/finding-trials-clinicaltrialsgov -What an insult to the diseased people looking for hope. Does this shed any light on the “anti-science climate”. Classic case of the baby being thrown out with the bath water. Maybe it is justified? along with the disrespect of the so called Media, the distrust of the Government-all of it-I have not decided who I will vote for-however-Trump is agreeing with the public who have had enough of the lies. Oh? are we in a war yet? Or was the last one still the 2nd world war? And who wants to discuss this countries “altruistic” try to disseminate democracy around the world-do you spell that oil?? And will the next President bow to the Oil leader of the world?? Am I still allowed to make fun of our leaders or does that make me a terrorist??? Please take this in the humor of which it is given–All in fun-especially for our children and grandchildren.

  5. His tax plan is so ridiculous that it would raise the deficit by 10 trillion dollars and he would have to cut spending by ginormous amounts. What do you think he’ll cut first?

Looking back upon our present time 500 years from now, the most important issue, bar none, is the human advent into space. This will give us limitless energy, limitless material, limitless lebensraum, and the ability to survive indefinitely. Besides Jack Kennedy, whatever personality drives this matter will be remembered above all others. If it will be Trump, fine. I just don’t see any progress with Hillary.
