In what could be a serious legal warning sign for the stem cell field, California federal district court Judge Jesus Bernal denied the government’s motion for summary judgment against Cell Surgical Network, et al. related to their marketing of an unproven fat stem cell product via their chain of clinics. The FDA is seeking a permanent injunction. You can read the new ruling here. The reasons why Bernal said he rejected the summary judgment request are concerning and don’t fit with my view of …Read More

A variety of states have stepped up to address unproven stem cell clinics within their borders and the latest is Vermont. According to the VTDigger and writer Anne Wallace Allen, the Vermont Medical Society is planning a number of steps to address this situation. Washington Post reporters William Wan and Laurie McGinley have a new piece on the unproven regenerative clinic firm the Lung Health Institute. This article has a number of surprises and new insights. Admittedly there are hundreds of clinics that aren’t that bad. They also might be FDA compliant. However, they still are selling stem cells that aren’t really proven to work or be 100% safe. That’s still a problem in my view. So what’s a really unhappy patient/customer to do after the fact? What if you either had …Read More

There once was a place called The Morrow Institute here in California run by a physician named David Morrow. This clinic did various kinds of cosmetic procedures and also unproven, non-FDA approved fat stem cell-related stuff too for some years. Last month during some research on clinics I found several media links (e.g. here) from the past couple years indicating that David and his wife Linda appeared to be fugitives from justice. That was news to me. So I began looking into that and …Read More
