Ready for the latest recommended weekly reads in the world of stem cells and the regenerative medicine space including a bunch of important new FDA posts & changes? This post has quite a lot on the FDA since it had a very big week with several new items of major importance to the cellular and regenerative medicine arena. I’ve linked to each announcement below with the agency’s title of the announcements. Underneath I provide some analysis and ask questions. I’ve also included some other stem …Read More

We’ve had another week of interesting stem cell news and papers. Here is an aggregate of the stem cell and regenerative medicine week that was. Stem cell therapy for baldness I’ve covered stem cells for hair loss for about a decade here on The Niche. While it seems like it’s taken a long time for this work to advance, there has been concrete progress. From Nature News, Regenerative medicine could pave the way to treating baldness. Here’s the actual Nature paper in question: Hair-bearing human …Read More

Stem cells for baldness? Where does that stand? Can hair loss be reversed using stem cells? I get asked these kinds of questions regularly here on The Niche that all converge on the issue of whether there might be a stem cell treatment for baldness soon. For that reason every couple of years I do an update on it. As someone with less hair than I used to have, I’m also just genuinely curious about this kind of research more personally. Sadly, I haven’t …Read More

Of course for the vast majority of people affected by baldness they simply get bald as they age …Read More

Today, I would say not a single stem cell-based treatment for baldness being sold out there claiming it works seems promising and legit. (Update: see this 2019 piece on where things stand on stem cells for hair loss.) Sad, huh? Is there reason for hope for stem cells helping hair loss? But there is reason for some optimism that stem cells might actually treat or cure baldness in the future…but we are talking a decade or more from now. Baldness is not strictly about …Read More

L’Oreal/Lancome has been in the business of making money off of stem cells for quite some time now via so-called stem cell facial creams that are expensive and based on dubious claims, and now they are in the stem cells for baldness biz too. Note I have a helpful 2nd post on how stem cells could really actually work to treatment baldness here. Check it out. Update: here’s a newer post from 2019 on stem cells for baldness. The FDA slammed the business just …Read More

It seems like a lot of my blogs have the word “baldness” in them, huh? The latest post today is on the apparent inverse correlation between baldness and pediatric cancer, not using stem cells to try to treat baldness. You might be scratching your head (bald or not) at this point. The connection is explained by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation (St. B). Every year St. B raises money for kids with cancer and a core fundraising event is shaving heads. So-called “Shavees” get pledges …Read More
