Congratulations to Professor Michele De Luca, the winner of The Niche’s Stem Cell Person of the Year Award for 2017! He won the Award from a strong panel of 10 finalists. The award includes a $2,000 USD prize. I chose him because of his exceptional track record in stem cell and regenerative medicine science combined with a long record of advocating for responsible translational science. Dr. De Luca also led an international team that recently published a groundbreaking paper on epidermal regeneration in a …Read More

Congratulations to Dr. Jeanne Loring, the winner of the Stem Cell Person of the Year Award for 2015. Facing steep competition from a very tough field of competitors of finalists, Jeanne came out as the winner for her exceptional contributions in 2015 and throughout her many years in the field. She not only has made numerous advances scientifically, but also gone the extra mile in many respects as an advocate and educator. Her scientific contributions include outstanding research on human stem cells and in particular …Read More

By Heather Main I was a little ashamed of myself that I didn’t know who half of the finalists were in Paul Knoepfler’s Stem Cell Person of the Year Award. I decided to look into it and find out what (or who) I have missed…..Interestingly, 3 of the 7 listed here are not scientists but instead are patients and/or patient advocates, showing the major impact these groups have on progression of our field. I have listed my write-ups of the Stem Cell Person of …Read More

Look for more information, such as mini-bios, soon on some of the top finalists. There were nearly 4,700 votes in total. Now I have the tough task of picking from this dozen just one winner, who will receive the recognition as the top stem cell outside the box innovator of …Read More

It’s time for The Niche 4th annual Stem Cell Person of the Year Award process to start. Please send me your nominations for the person you think had the biggest positive impact in the stem cell and regenerative medicine world in 2015. This award is unique in a number of ways. For example, anyone in the world is eligible to be nominated: both scientists and non-scientists alike. The nominee should also be someone who thought outside the box and took risks, which are novel areas of …Read More
